SILK ROSES

ON PERFUME’S FAVORITE FLOWER

A symbol of tender romance and fiery passion, the rose has long been an allusion to love in all of its forms.

The ancient Greeks associated the flower with the goddess Aphrodite as a sentiment of her beauty and sensuality.

In Christianity, the rose is associated with the Virgin Mary, in this case exuding notions of innocence and docility.
Rose takes an undoubtably essential role in the fragrance industry, with around 75% of fragrances containing rose essential oils.

The Damascene rose from Turkey and Rosa Centifolia, which grows near Grasse, are the most commonly used roses in fragrance.

Roses are typically harvested in Bulgaria, where farmers must extract oil from roses early in the morning, before the sun dries out their petals -- it is said that it takes nearly 200 rose flowers to produce a drop of
rose essential oil.
